Name:  Carlos Alvarado

Hometown: Houston Tx

Age: 37

Occupation: Senior Data Analyst

When did you first start doing CrossFit?: December 2020

When did you first start training at CrossFit Katy?: Same as above :)

What class do you generally attend (morning/afternoon)?  First 6 months was 4:30 and then moved to 9:30 am

Favorite WOD: Push Press

Least Favorite WOD: Overhead Squats

Tell us about your sports & fitness background: I’ve always played recreational basketball but didn’t start focusing on fitness until I was around 33.  I was the fat guy that can play basketball lol

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD... what was it, and how did it feel?  I was actually doing Orange Theory prior to moving out to the area and knew that it wasn’t challenging me and needing something more.   As I was doing Hot Yoga next door, I saw happy people coming in and out of the gym and figured that it was a sign for me to try it.   The first workout was very frustrating because I had zero flexibility.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)?  My posture has gotten way better and I feel taller.   My overall mood and confidence is at an all time high and it's helping me break barriers in other parts of my life.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced since starting CrossFit?  I would say my mental health has gotten the biggest positive impact.  It allows me to now see things with a much clearer mind and gives me the confidence to make wiser choices.

Name one goal you have reached since joining CFK:   When I first started, I couldn’t even do one air squat.   Now I’m able to squat 225 lbs at full dept.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFK moments:  One of the most valuable things I love about going to CFK is the community.   My first day, everyone welcomed me and felt very family oriented and that’s what kept me coming back.    I feel the love when coming to workout.

Any advice for people just getting started?  My advice would be to not feel bad if you’re in last place starting off.   I’d also recommend giving it at least 6 months of dedication and you’ll then feel the difference in your life.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?  I’m a music producer that goes by Soulos and half of a EDM duo called “Molly & Tacos”.   Family, Music, Basketball, and Bar hopping, are pretty much what I’m doing all week.
