When did you first start doing CrossFit?: May 2014

When did you first start training at CrossFit Katy?: October 2019

What class do you generally attend (morning/afternoon)? Started off at 5a but now I am generally at 4:30p.

Favorite WOD: AMRAP’s, Partner WOD’s, Deadlifts, Box jumps, Revurpees :)

Least Favorite WOD: Series of AMRAP’s increasing duration

Tell us about your sports & fitness background: Growing up, I played sports (softball, basketball, volleyball, track) then danced in my high school drill team for a short time. As an adult, I played some co-ed softball, tried Zumba with some friends and would occasionally go to the gym.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD... what was it, and how did it feel? Since high school, I have had issues with my weight. I was underweight and not eating enough. It was very noticeable. Then came mid 2013, I was the biggest I have EVER been (even when I was pregnant, I was not ever this overweight). My cousin who has been doing CrossFit had been trying to get me to join. Oh, let me tell you I was super nervous and kept telling myself, “I am too young to die”. (lol) After so long, I felt like depression and anxiety had taken over and my health was declining. That’s when I knew it was time to make changes to better myself and show my daughter, “You can achieve whatever you set your mind to”. My first WOD was the Lumberjack 20. Yep, I most DEFINITELY felt like I was going to die but knew I needed to challenge myself. At the end, the feeling of accomplishment was amazing and the results became so addicting.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? Just to name a few changes was losing 40lbs and dropping four sizes. I have gained muscles along with having confidence.  At one point, I needed a blood transfusion because of the severity of my anemia and now I am the healthiest I’ve ever been.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced since starting CrossFit?  I must start the week working out and always plan to go at least 3 times a week. I do my best to watch what I eat and am always willing to learn more about nutrition.

Name one goal you have reached since joining CFK and one goal you want to achieve: My absolute top goal was to not gag EVERY SINGLE TIME working out and kipping pullups in a row. Now my next goals to achieve are: double-unders, handstand walk and butterfly pull-ups.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFK moments: Volunteering for the competitions we host, going to outside competitions our fellow CFK members are competing in, going to the 4:30 class and seeing my crew, and the encouragement we all give each other. In all honesty, anytime with the CFK community has always been great memorable moments.

Any advice for people just getting started? Don’t get discouraged. Take before and after pictures and keep track of your weights you lift, you will be amazed by the changes. Just keep going because you never know what you are capable of when you are consistent.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? Love taking pictures for fun, running mud runs, and exploring new and different places with family and friends.
