When did you first start CrossFitting?  January 2013

When did you first start training at CrossFit Katy?  January 2013

What class do you generally attend (morning/afternoon)?  9:30 am

Favorite WOD:  Jackie

Least Favorite WOD:  Karen—150 wall balls for time… No thanks!:)

Tell us about you sports & fitness background:  I was a cheerleader and played softball in high school. After high school I played on a few softball leagues for fun, but did not take fitness seriously at all!

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit?Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?   I knew I wanted to get back in shape after having both my girls and tried a few things like boot camps and group fitness classes at the Y, but didn’t stick to it…. My husband said I should try CrossFit so I decided to give it a shot. My first class had pull-ups and several 400m runs in it. I definitely could not do a pull up at the time and running 400m once much less several times seemed impossible. I remember seeing someone rowing instead of running and thought that maybe the running was optional?? Ha! Not so much, I remember telling Leah, “I think I would like to row instead of run… I’m not really a runner!” Lets’ just say that her answer was NO, and running was my fate! Somehow I finished the WOD and I knew right then and there that I needed the structure of CrossFit to be able to meet my fitness goals.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)?   There have been so many changes I don’t know if I can fit them all here! Most important, I think, is my energy level. Having two children under the age of five can be draining sometimes. Before I started CrossFit I felt like I had zero energy all of the time and was struggling to get through the days without needing a nap! Since starting CrossFit my energy is never a problem! I’ve actually added things to my already full plate and never feel overwhelmed anymore! Other than that my body has definitely changed, before I was thin but had ZERO muscle tone! It has been pretty crazy to see muscle on me now!

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?   I really didn’t expect for my whole life to change but in a way most aspects of my life have. Everything from my food choices for myself and my family to simple things like starting and actually finishing a project have all changed for the better. I think it has a lot to do with the type of mindset that you have to have to do CrossFit. You are just more conscience of the “what you put in is what you get out” principal and it tends to spill over into so many other things.

Name one goal you have reached since joining CFK and one goal you want to achieve (example:  deadlift/squat/press ___ pounds; do a pull-up; do a WOD RX’d, etc.):   I worked for a very long time on my pull-ups and finally got them a few months ago! Next goal is definitely a muscle up!

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFK moments: I really enjoyed going to regionals this year… I think being there and seeing all the hard work everyone puts in to compete at that level is so inspiring. This is definitely where I got the itch to start training harder and really push myself to see where it could take me.

Any advice for people just getting started?   Just keep showing up! There are definitely days where it would be easier to cancel your class and go about your day, but showing up and proving to yourself that you are dedicated to your progress is what will keep you motivated!!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?  My family of course, my husband and two daughters keep me super busy! I am also a clothing designer and am in the process of launching a new line!
