I lost a little weight at first, and certainly toned. I didn’t really see changes in my overall appearance until I changed my diet.

Tell us about you sports & fitness background:
I played basketball for fun almost my whole life. Not great at it, but it was fun. Played tennis a little in high school as well. I tried various gyms, but I couldn’t be consistent with it. Just before I hit 30, I found a basketball group to play with. It’s how I stayed in a little shape until I tore my ACL. Finding Crossfit really help me find something to keep me moving that I enjoy.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit?
Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel? My cousin raved about Crossfit for years. He called it, “The lazy man’s” work out. Not that you’re lazy for doing it, but it’s just easy to show up and do the work out. I found Crossfit Katy through Hunter Sonnen, who works with me. It just made sense.

I don’t remember much about the first WOD, but the one thing I remember is one of the moments was double DB lunges. I’m pretty sure I ended up dumping the DBs halfway through the workout, but it was a good intro.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)?
I lost a little weight at first, and certainly toned. I didn’t really see changes in my overall appearance until I changed my diet as I was still eating junk. I lost 25 lbs after that and kept it off for 6 months now

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?
Reactions from my friends, family and peers. They still comment about my appearance, weight, etc.

Name one goal you have reached since joining CFK and one goal you want to achieve (example: deadlift/squat/press ___ pounds; do a pullup; do a WOD RX’d, etc.):
Doing an Rx WOD became a goal quickly once I realized what I was doing. Double unders was a goal as well that I have to a certain extent. My next goal is to get pull ups without bands, which is taking some time.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFK moments:
When a person is struggling to finish a WOD (especially for time) the way people gather around that person, encouraging them, cheering them on, really shows that we all want to push each other to succeed, to be better. Those are my favorite moments of Crossfit.

Any advice for people just getting started?
Just keep going. One more push up, one more squat, one more burpee. Accept that you’ll be sore for the first couple of months, but pushing through it just makes it all easier.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
I love traveling and spending time with my family. We’re always looking for new places to go. Before kids, my wife and I loved scuba diving and based most of our vacations around that hobby. I also like all kinds of games.
