When did you first start training at CrossFit Katy? August 2019

What class do you generally attend (morning/afternoon)? MWF 4:30 PM

Favorite WOD: Anything that has rowing and no bicycle!

Least Favorite WOD: A baby workout we did at CrossFit Katy, Xander.

Tell us about you sports & fitness background: I was tom boy when I was young and pretty fit until 5 grade. I have struggled with my weight since then. I have tried many programs but always quit for one excuse or another after few week. I really have been pretty sedentary for 10 yrs.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel? I watch my mother die due to complications related to her weight, got divorced and decided I needed to change and get health. I came across the website offering free trial and said go for it. I arrived early. As I watched panicked knowing is could not do any of the things I was watching and about to leave when Mike approached me before I could sneak out. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. I honestly do not remember the first workout. I do remember the next day and rolling out of bed. Ouch!

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? I have gone down 5 sizes in clothes. I can tie my shoes by bending down. I can rise from a chair without arms. I am more flexible. I have seen decrease in asthma flares and I am also sleeping much better. I have gotten back into helping coach a jump rope team for kids. I am truly amazed with the changes I have seen in just a short while doing CrossFit.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected? I have so much more self-esteem. I am proud of each and every WOD I do. I am also more motivated in my career to try for a promotion.

Name one goal you have reached since joining CFK and one goal you want to achieve (example: deadlift/squat/press ¬¬¬___ pounds; do a pullup; do a WOD RX’d, etc.): The goal that I am proud of accomplishing is being able to do a box jump to 12 inch box. It may not sound like much but someone who could barely jump up on a 10 lb plate it is huge. The goals I want to reach is to do double unders!

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFK moments: I enjoy all the fellowship. Everyone is so welcoming and encouraging. I love when Mike sneaks up and scares athletes. I also enjoy watching all the families that do CrossFit together.

Any advice for people just getting started? Just do it! If this obese, middle aged, totally out of shape woman can do it any one can. Don’t be afraid, everything can be modified so you can participate. Be proud of the each and every gain, even if it is little

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? Aside from my children which is a given, my passion is rescue animals. I have been foster for the Houston SPCA since 2011 and volunteer regular at the shelter. I have 3 dogs and one cat, all are from the SPCA. Adopt, Don’t Shop!
