Name:  Kyle Janik

Hometown:  Sugar Land, TX

Age:  42

Occupation:  Project Manager

When did you first start doing CrossFit?: February 2020

When did you first start training at CrossFit Katy?:  February 2020

What class do you generally attend (morning/afternoon)?  Early Morning Risers

Favorite WOD:  Anything with a barbell and a partner

Least Favorite WOD:  Anything that has more than 5 RFT and running.

Tell us about your sports & fitness background:  I played golf for my High School team and still play regularly.  Regular fitness/gym activity was never part of my life until I found CrossFit.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD... what was it, and how did it feel?  I was turning 40 in 2020 and my body was telling me it needed some regular fitness activity.  I was telling this to a colleague at lunch one day and he told me about this great gym called CrossFit Katy.  I signed up for the free class, struggled through the first WOD and came back the next day.  I was hooked!

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)?  I have definitely gotten stronger everywhere, especially in my legs and core.  I can walk 18 holes without being fatigued and stay in focus down the stretch.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced since starting CrossFit?  I have so much more energy throughout the day since starting CrossFit.

Name one goal you have reached since joining CFK and one goal you want to achieve:  The gymnastics movements have really improved for me since I started, especially kipping pull-ups.  My personal goal for this year is to maintain a regular workout schedule, especially when I travel for work, and complete a ToughMudder in the Fall.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFK moments:  I really enjoy volunteering at the competition events that CFK hosts.  I enjoy watching all the athletes compete and leave it all on the mat because I know how much effort they put in to get into competition shape.

Any advice for people just getting started?  The advice I gave my daughter when she started doing CF was to focus on the correct way to do all the lifts and exercises.  Also, swallow your pride and Scale, Scale, Scale!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?  I play golf regularly and am trying to get my index down to 2.1 or lower this year so I can stay better at golf than my 2 boys.  I am also a professional chauffeur for my kids to and from their respective extracurricular activities.
